They have it easy because it is what the judge looks for, although I would agree that it makes certain dog looks better IMO. So dogs ears and tail cropping is totally different from cutting the tail of a fish that makes them ugly instead of being better looking.
Not trying to argue, but I do not believe cropped ears are considered standard in dog shows anymore , they however are not disqualifying either(or at least they were trying to change the rules to conform to this, I am not 100% positive it has been implemented though). As for docked tails it is definitely standard and is necessary as those breeds of dogs have developed their gait for years now with a docked tail, not docking their tail can actually be detrimental to their gait as it throws off their natural sense of balance.

As for animal rights stepping in over such matters as a fish being dyed, tattooed, or having their tails cut off at birth - they don't. The best practice is for fish keepers to do everything they can to not condone such practices. If a pet store, breeder, distributor, ect. carries any fish like this don't buy from them, I know I don't.

Yes I will agree with you on here that dog ears doesn't need to be crop in order to qualify for any dog show. But if your looking for some reason competition, you bet you'll need some cropping if you want to look at its best and win. If you cut it and it just looks ugly, then I can understand where your coming from. Like those heart shape flowerhorn, cutting off the tail is like cutting off a leg of a dog.

True that some people might find it pretty. There is still a big difference here. It's not what some people find it pretty, it's what a majority of people find it good looking or not. And here a majority of them doesn't. But either way, doing something that is not beneficial to something is pointless. This is just more of a marketing type of thing than it's standard judge or what it should be looked upon certain fish. :irked:

jus maybe jus maybe, dat those who find dem pretty, they dem selfz are mutilated?

Ive seen one of these for the first time in my life last week. It was pretty sad to see some struggle with their swimming while others were swimming fine like they never got their tails cut off. I think its horrible that people would do this to these fish. I almost bought one because i felt so bad for it, but i figured that i was probably going to add to the problem because if i bought one they would think these are in high demand and order more. :(
