lol you guys don't know the woes of living in montana. The last remaining LPS here shut it's doors a few months ago. The only thing that resembles one now is the local petco. Tetras, guppies, and oscars max out their large fish list. The only kind of catfish they have is plecos. I asked if they could get in channels and they flat out told me no. I asked if they could get pictus, again the answer was no. I don't think they realized I was looking at the sheet they left laying around for orders. There was even RTC on that order form $2 each. They just have some policy at this local store not to get any fish that get over a certain size. This town has roughly 20,000 people in it. I have to say there are very few to no advanced aquarium hobbyist locally. I'd have to drive to Washington 12hrs, to get my hands on any quality fish.It is beyond tough to get catfish into Montana although none are illegal here except of course the federally banned ones.
I have all mine from Indiana. 2 bull head and my channel. Can't get enough of cats. Living in a town of 50,000 here in Wyoming. A local petshop has a small stock list. You make the drive down you can get channels for 20 bucks lol

It's not as if there are a ton of LFS in well-populated areas either...and especially ones that cater to hobbyists.
Here in the DC/Baltimore area we have about a handful of freshwater LFS left. All but a couple of those are hanging on by a thread...

I can, but I will not at least until my daughter is 18 or decides to move off. I can not abandon her. No matter how lonely or issolated I feel here, or how bad I'd love to be back in North Carolina I must wait and may never move. So I bring the catfish to me lol.
Yeah that does suck chub. 3 of the species here only grow to 1' or so and the other is a channel. It is around a 3 hr drive to get the channels from here and about 1hr drive if I want some Noturus flavus, or yellow, or brown bullheads. They are all great aquarium catfish but semi rare in Montana. Is Germany tough on import laws for FW fish?
Not at all, butadly, the interest in keeping coldwater fish except koi/goldfish is even lower than in other countries. Only 1 fish farm, located a good 8 hours away from me, has some cool coldwater fish, but never channel cats.
