low flow RUGF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow thanks for all the answers guys.

so am i right in understanding that it would be hard to me to achieve such a low flow to go through the sand without disturbing it but at the same time having enough force to push the waste up towards the intake?

from what people are saying it would be quite difficult to acheive and so i have been thinking (its dangerous i know:naughty:) i think im going to go for the jets, but just turn them on when it gets dirty to kick up the muck from the bottom. do you guys think this will work effectively?

ive been looking into these jets and like Pharoh said, they should be placed where most of the muck settles, however it is also reccomened and would be a damn sight easier that these jets are laid before the sand goes in the tank. my question is, how will i know where the muck is going to settle without having the fish in there?

the tank is going to be minimal decor, litterally like 3 big rocks, so would a few of these jets at the back pointing to the front be sufficient to clear the big open space of sand?

Thanks for all the help guys.

I suppose you could use fish food, or some such to simulate the waste.
Problem with a jet system is adjustability. Even with minimum décor, as you said you were going to use, to me it would be a big pain to set up.
Leaving the jet fitting unglued would still involve a partially filled tank and trying to move the jets for direction.
Not to mention how much “squish”, if any, you want on your jets.
Once set up, you would be locked into how the décor is placed.
All around, some Hydors would make more sense to me.

Just a quick thought, but what about using the loc-line adapters and plumbing the UGJ with those. That would give you a bit of flexibility when need to adjust for dead spots.

i was thinking of plumbing a tap in the line of the UGJ.

also i was wondering if i could use flexiable, black pond pipe hose?

then i could move the jets, (which would be sicliconed to tiles) to where ever i wanted should i want to re arrange decor.

Just a thought.

I have 16 adults and they do make quite a bit of poop. I have my turnover about 3X with a eheim 2180. Alot of guys just use sponge filters to keep the water movement down while breeding. fronts dont mind a little current every once and awhile so you can crank it up with powerheads or whatever every once and awhile to kick up the poo. I really dont like the poo going in my canister too much so I get a net every few days and wave it around to stir it up and remove it that way. the only time I slow my flow down is when I see a tube down, too much flow will sometimes wash away the males milt so I try and keep flow at the bottom of the tank to a minimum. If your not getting adults it will be several years until they start breeding anyways. good luck

sweet im glad i can speed things up a lil to kick up all the poo :) ill be getting babies so i have ages.

ill build another outlet if they start breeding, shouldnt be too hard, just a drop in one.

oh btw ward, what type of fonts is it in your profile picture?
is it Zaire? i really like them :)

Cheers
