Lungfish+angelfish+african butterflyfish... problems?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Starting phase 1 of seeing if Jethro can have friends and a fancy tank lol...

Added a mix of plants and 10 silver tipped tetras to his tank... an hour in and everybody's getting along........ but Jethro was pretty interested in the fish while they were acclimating in the bag...

We shall see

The single African Lungfish I owned was quite accepting of tankmates too large to be eaten...but any fish that small were doomed. Lungfish aren't very accomplished predators of small fast-moving fish, and the tetras may last a long time, but make no mistake: they must be viewed as "long-term feeders".

Honestly, if it were me...and I do love the look of a tank containing great big fish living with tiny ones...I'd just introduce a colony of Endlers or similar small livebearers. I'd expect that they will probably reproduce more than quickly enough to make up for the few that will get periodically caught and eaten.

Makes sense! My long term goal is to house him with an arowana or two and some Oscar's in a large pond were planning to build in a corner, but i want to test drive with some fish that I wouldn't be so sad to lose before getting some more fancy ones...
We are also enjoying the smal and big together though, so I may stick with this route and just get him a 120 for now and build the pond for the arowanans
