Fahaka and ray have been gone long ago. The Fahaka had to go because his choice of snack were gars not rays!
Why eat a disc when you can eat a stick?

People have pretty much covered it here. I would like to add that feeding can become expensive (and very messy) since you need to feed them hard shelled animals like mussles and crayfish to help shave their beaks down.

Like dmop said 99% of them cant be kept with anything of value, LUCKILY I once found a Fahaka that fell into the 1%. Heres a pic of proof!
:headbang2

WOW u got a fahaka? post more pics ;please.

Mine lives with 2 plecos and a silver dat. The dat is even smaller than the puffer. I have seen another pic floating around the web of a Fahaka living with a thinbar dat too.

There are about 1% of the Fahakas that do allow tank mates. Even though, everyone needs their own territory & the tank has to be large enough. I happen to have a 10" fahaka that was moved to a 55g (at 5") with 2 with plecos & a soft-shell turtle. Within 2 days, the whole back rim of the turtle's shell was scalloped, so he got his own tank.

He now lives in a 125g with:
12" Goldspot pleco
6" sailfin pleco
10" Yellow-finned chalcius
2 7" Clown loaches
9" Lancer catfish
5" Rainbow shark
6" Redtail shark
5" Bosmani rainbow
7" Frontosa
8" & 9" Elephant noses (18 years old)

12” Black Ghost Knife
Occasionally there is a fin nipped but all in all, he's a wimp & the Goldspot & Frontosa is always kicking him out of his cave. After many years of all of these fish living in harmony, my stepdaughter asked me to take her large parrot cichlid. He was killed within 6 hours of adding him. So you just can never tell with a fahaka or any other puffer, foor that matter...

I got one of the 1 percenters, but I moved him to his own tank. He took one tiny nip out of my fire eel and I moved him that second. I probably could still keep him in my 100G, but I don't feel like taking that risk, especially as he gets bigger.

I have had my Fahaka in a community tank since I first got him. For almost a year now - Two other puffers "not fahakas", A big ghost knive, tetras, plecos, algae eaters, silver dollars, and two cats. Guess I have a 1%er, although I hear they get more aggressive with age.

Try to find a male and female, and keep them with a divider. I dont think they pair up and mate like cichlids. There was a guy that had a fahaka or mbu female that scattered some eggs. But there was no male and the risk was huge if adding a male. My only guess to breed them is to have a female lay eggs, remove her and ad a sexually mature male. And maybe he will fertalize them.

So if you have a divider, and eggs are laid you can try removing them divider and see what happens. As far as jsut having two of them, I dont know if its possible. They really dont make good community fish. Maybe you can try 2 females. And make sure to add alot of plants or something so they can have some territory and they may leave eachother alone sometimes.

I have a 99%er, he kills everything that touches the water, either way he I'm keeping him these fish are the best.
