MAC computers Suk

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Anti-virus? What's that? Spyware? Never heard of it. And, they are not any more complicated to use that a PC. Just different. Of corse, a PC user might miss all that time they spend cleaning all that crap out of their hard drives.

X2... I've had my MacBook for 3 years now and haven't had one issue.. After all the issues i've had with PC's i just wish i could throw my work PC out a window and replace it with a Mac.. :)

I went to a mac about 4 years ago with a 15"laptop, now all I will get for me and kids are apples. My son (computer engineer) says I pay to much, he can build one cheaper, but agrees, linux is best system, just wishes he could get parts to build his own apple system. Very stable and video editing is no comparison.

The selling point I hear a lot about macs is the no virus thing. I have always used windows, and I build my own machines. After a clean OS install (none of the bloatware that store bought computers come with), I turn off all microsoft security programs (defender/firewall) and install Avast! antivirus (free for home use). Don't click adds. Don't click popups. Don't download free screensavers. Don't download anything "free" that you don't know about. When you install a program, actually read the little windows and tell it NOT to install all the toolbars and junk they try to get you to use. Guess what? no viruses, malware, spyware, trojans, worms, or registry issues in the 12 years since I built my first rig.

I guess maybe macs have something that prevent all this for you? I don't really know. But the expense and lack of software support and gaming don't make up for a small amount of user common sense.

I will say that I recommended a mac for my mother because she has an iPod and an iPhone, and trying to get all that working is a PITA if you're using windows and aren't computer literate. But that almost annoys me more because everything is so closed and proprietary with Apple. They kind of force you to go all or nothing with their products. But that's marketing/capitalism, so I don't hate :D

I have a 1st. gen. Intel based Mac that is over 6 years old that I have had zero problems with. Anti-virus? What's that? Spyware? Never heard of it. And, they are not any more complicated to use that a PC. Just different. Of corse, a PC user might miss all that time they spend cleaning all that crap out of their hard drives.

this is only true because there are 4 pc's for every mac, if mac ever catches up in market share viruses will be just as bad. Right now Macs market share is so small its not worth the time to write such programs.

Seems a lot of people in the creative industry love macs...

Infact i think of all the designers i personally know, none have used a PC in over 10 years now...

I like to believe it's just a personal attack on Bill Gates.

I like my Mac a lot. My PC at work is fine, but I don't have to pay for the tech support...
