Who here has ever owned a Striped Peacock Eel (Macrognathus aral)? I currently have one, and am interested to hear how big any of yours were when they reached full size. I understand they get quite large (up to 25" supposedly).

I have seen other people's, but they are never that big. I'm starting to wonder if they really get that big in home aquaria.

They are defenatly one of the smaller spiney eels, Mine only got to be about a foot long. When I got a new tank he got stressed and died. I doupt that they would exceed 18" but it is possible for them to get larger... don't get your hopes up though it may not get that big. If you want a big spiney eel just get a fire eel.

That's a about a one foot difference. I am pushing it now with what I thought would be at least 18". Could you post a pic of yours?

I have 2 stripped peacock eels in my 65 gal. Right now the smaller one is 6 in. and the larger one is 8-9 in (hard to measure always moving) but i heard they will stop growing right at a foot long.

Yeah peacocks are among the smaller and less agressive spinys.Don't get a fire eel unless it's with bigger fish like malawi cichlids,Oscars you know, bigger fishies.

striped peacocks aka lessar spiny eels get about 20-24" inches long but stop growing at a foot in freshwater adults need brackish since as adults they live in mangrove swamps and estararies

I'm not talking about Peacock Eels (Macrognathus siamensis), i'm talking about Striped Peacock Eels. I'm not going to get a Fire Eel, lol. I am just talking about the eel I already have. ;)

Is that accurate? I've never heard that. I'll see what I can find.
