Mag Drive Product Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tested the pump in the bath tub last night and it seemed to pump a ton. A little loud though.

Based on my picture do you think there is too much head for that pump?

In addition and not in the photo is about 10 horizontal feet of pipe, about 3 vertical feet of pipe all 1" and 2 more 90° elbows.

I really want to get the UV going. :)

What is the UV rated for? Unless it's HUGE then the it's better for a slower flow. If the water passes through it too quickly, then it can be worthless.

I have had 2 36's and 1 24 die. I HATE Danner. The replacement to my replacement 36 just died. I have no reciept left. I haven't tried to call them yet to complain.

It's a 40 watt Pentair rated for up to 1500 GPH. And yes I know how they work. :)

I was hoping for 1000-1200. I even installed a high rate flow meter to keep tabs on the flow.

But I can't even get 300 GPH hour through this set up with the 3600.

BE NICE TO HAVE A PRESSURE GAGE AT THE PUMP OUT PUT

There is one on each of the Ocean Clears and I'll be damned if I remember what it read. DOH!

I'll put the pump back on and fire it up again and get the reading.

THEN WE CONVERT PSI TO FEET OF HEAD AND SEE WHERE YOU ARE AT........

A quick google search says 1psi = 2.31 feet of head. Is that correct?

Just fired it up (still very loud) and it showed 6.5 psi on the first canister. Let's assume another .5 psi for the two elbows going to the canister for 7 total. 7 x 2.31 = 16 foot of head.

According to this chart I should be getting 600 GPH
http://www.mops.ca/skus/wp/Danner_Flow_Chart.html

The minimum flow on my flow meter is 5 GPM (300 GPH) and it's not even hitting that.

Time for a different pump or did I miss something?

Maybe remove the Ocean Clear with the micron cartridge to save some bucks on a new pump so there will be less head?

I'm open to all ideas. :)

No time right now but maybe tomorrow night I'll remove the Ocean Clear with the micron cartridge from the line and fire it up again to see what kind of psi it reads.

I really don't want a huge pump that is expensive to feed. Maybe by eliminating a canister I can get a pump that is cheaper to operate.

Hmmmm, Reeflo pumps may fit the bill.

The Tarpon (pressure biased) pumps 786 gph at 16' head and only uses 188 watts and is supposed to be pretty quiet.

The Barracuda (flow biased) pumps 1800 gph at 16' head and uses 237 watts, still less than the mag drive 3600.

Or the Wahoo (pressure biased) pumps around 1350 gph at 16' head and uses about 275 watts.

Decisions decisions.
