maine coon cats

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't say Moose is exotic compared my other cat. But he does have some differences.
-His ears are larger and filled with thick white hair for insulation as well as being tipped.
-His feet are 3 times larger than a domestic shorthairs, (very visible in the pics) and he has 7 toes per foot as well as a thick dense patch of hair between his toes and on the bottoms of his feet for running on snow.
-His tail his much longer and MUCH thicker.
-His coat is double layered, one longer gloss and one short insulator for the cold
-He has thick hair around his britches and stomach to protect from cold
-His skeleton is much bigger and more robust, he's not agile, hes very strong.
-He cannot meow like most cats, his voice is more like a trill or squeal.
-He lacks a fear of water entirely.

I wouldn't classify any of these traits as exotic, but in person there is no mistaking him for a normal domestic cat.

Well this is the exotic forum right? Dogs and cats belong in the lounge.

over here we class them as exotics..just because they rnt too easily available i suppose.

oddball can move it if he feels the need i suppose.

We've got a Maine Coone Mix that's about 5 years old, we got adopted him so there's probably more mixed into him. We used to let him outside and he was fine but there were quite a few sticks and whatnot in his fur but then we moved to the metromess and now I think he prefers the indoors. He's bigger than 10llbs I think he was 14lbs last time i checked. Doesn't seem to eat an insane amount, but we just keep his bowl full of dry food and refill every day or two.

Forgot your in a different country! I would say that they qualify as exotic In the UK. Here in B.C all the wild cats have similar traits to coons so it doesn't make it seem exotic here. But then again trolls will complain about anything haha.

awwww i love all the pics. maine coon's are one of the cutest breeds of cats I think.

he is loooovely!!!
does he happen to know hes handsome by any chance?
one of my old cats, if u called him gorgeous he would almost smile at u with half closed eyes and purrr like 'yea, i know, its a hard life' lol

i wasnt sitting on the fence but now iv definitely jumped down on the right side.

like i said, its really just making sure i can afford to care for it before i get it. he would get all the love in the world but that doesnt make up for no food lol

In the USA you have to watch for fake maine coons. A lot of people will sell fluffy, odd kittens as maines or mixes as pure maines.
I would say they are exotic because they are different than the usual. Some people even say my Doberman is exotic(to them personally) so it does also depend on personal thoughts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_CoonMain Entry: 1ex·ot·ic
