Major decision, input needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would go with ply build, if done right they can look better and nicer then glass tanks. Have you been checking out the DYI section for ideas?

what if you buy one of those inflatable pools? would be easy to get in and out of your house.
LOL,I've thought of trying this myself.

do you have a basement with a bulkhead? you could move the pool itself into the basement with some heaters in the wintertime? put a cover on it for insulation too.

Of course I could put the fish in a pool in the basement, but that really defeats the purpose of having them as pets. I don't want inmates in my basement that are having their biological needs met. I want my friends in the living room where I can interact with them many times a day. I want to see trick or treaters come to my door and say "Trick or.... Look at the FISH!!!! HEY MOM... Ohh my GOD, Look at the fish." (I swear that never gets old.)

Any others with some thoughts?

How about a fiberglass aquaculture tank with a window? 600gallon 96 x 48 x 30 for $1455.00 or a 720 gallon 96 x 48x 36 for $1806. I'm in camp texting from my new phone, so can't get the info readily www.aquaticeco.com. Then go to aquaculture, tanks and liners, then fiberglass tanks. These tanks aren't pretty, but probably could be dressed up to meet your needs. I'd be deathly afraid of a plastic pool for my pacu. We've got a lot 1"+ tooth marks on the acrylic walls of our tank. Good Luck to you.

Pacu Mom you may just be a genius. That 600 gallon tank is only 30" tall, I could turn it sideways and get it in the door!!!!

It wouldn't take much work with some super thin cabinet grade ply wood to trim that out to look pretty either!!!!

Has anybody ever got one of these tanks? I see them mentioned from time to time but have never seen any pictures set up or reviews of them. I think they are a great option for some people. Would love to hear some input. Also to the op I applaud your commitment to your fish good luck and hope it works for you.

Getting the 405 G for a sump for the filtration system for the new fish room we are building. Have had my eyes on these tanks for a long time. If I had known about them before I purchased our 300 G tank, maybe we would't have to upgrade now.

I have used smaller version of those tanks many times. It just hadn't occured to me to use one in my home.

I have used 30 gallon tanks in research labs and 100 gallon versions in aquaculture lab settings.

They aren't pretty, but it wouldn't take a genius to build a nice wood trip package around it.

I see this $1455 tank has a $90 "crate fee" and they won't give a price on shipping until I buy the tank as it is freighted. Its got to go from FL to CT.... even if the shipping was $300, I think that is still my best option yet.

The only remaining worries are: a 4' wide tank in my living room is 1 foot wider than I was planning. I'll probably get over that. But is 30" tall going to be tall enough for a grown pacu? They are tall fish.

A very real question for my husband (when he is home) would be.... ok the pacu just grew taller and really need a taller tank, can we expand up on this pre-existing box? I don't think there would ever be a need for a larger footprint, and expanding up may seem odd, but I actually think it would be doable on this style tank.
