Make Firefox perform Faster

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
is the tweak something that has to be done each time you open the browser? I made the change when I first read this post way earlier this morning. I just checked the about:config page after reopening the browser and the settngs went back to normal. just wondering if there's a way to save the new settings or do they need to be changed each time? :)

You only have to make the changes once and close the browser after that.
The changes should be permanent after...

ok got it on all 3 of my computers

there is a firefox extension that does the same thing...I'll have to try to find it again.

For some reason pix dont load for me now.....

Can we change it back to default somehow??

All you firefox users, heres a tweak thats simple to do and will definitely
make your browser load faster...

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter.
Scroll down and look for the following entries:

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Howdy,

Thanks for the info. Since nobody has asked it, yet: Where did you get that info from, and what other effects does it have on FF? I understand it's an open source program. If this was an ideal way to make it faster, people would have done it in the original program

Just wondering...

Thanks,
HarleyK

Hi Harley, developers have stability and flexibility as priorities rather than speed
when making firefox. Its like oem cars. You can squeeze extra hp out of them but the manufacturers choose to prioritize safety and reliability over top speed.

I dont see any side effects on this simple tweak as theres even a plugin available from mozilla that will make the tweak automatically. Once you make the changes, it should be permanent, up until the time that you reset your preferences, after which everything should go back to default.

Its a low risk tweak. I recommend you try it.. if it doesnt make your browsing faster, just reset or put your settings to default.

For some reason I couldn't load pix after I changed my settings.

I changed them back and it works fine now. So if it does stuff up for any reason you can fix it.
