Is there any specific reason you despise Oscars and Arowanas? I mean there are a lot of fish I just don't care for or is not my style, but despise them?:screwy:
(I hope nobody takes offense to this, as it is just my opinion)

Oscars are big, mean, ugly brutes that are (again, IMHO) aggressive, bad with most cool fish, and not a fish that I would keep with any fish I like. They also get pretty big.

Arowanas (yet again, IMHO, no harm meant) are pretty much tankbusters that get DE (which is ugly IMO). They are bland too, no stipes or dots (see my sig- Leporinus, CLs, Fire Eel, etc.). AND they eat pretty much everything which can fit in their mouths.

I don't like either of them, and I hate seeing tankfuls of them at LFSs.

THESE ARE MY OPINIONS AND I HOPE YOU DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE

it's all these features that make them such great fish. And yes I could see them being ugly but They are Monsters in every since of the word. That's why we come to this forum to share our love of the big tankbusters that we've all come to love. And even though I can't keep them...yet, I still like discussing these fantastic fish

not crtisizing you or making you sound like the bad guy. Just saying:D

I totally understand where you guys are coming from. I'm just saying my opinion on these fish, which you asked for, and to each his (or her) own. I just prefer to keep big peaceful fish, and not have a big tank dedicated to killer fish that I consider ugly. I do not respect anybody more or less because they keep oscars or aros, I just do not like them (the fish) at all. Red Devil, I do know the essence of the site, and I know that Aros and Oscars are key monsters here on MFK. My opinions are exactly that- my opinions, not the opinions of MFK.

Again, this is a calm, peaceful discussion, and I don't want to start a war.

That's cool, I see where youre coming from

I agree with the Oscars (I have now had 3) but not every Silver Aro gets DE...

could you imagine if he set that up as a huge community planted tank? god that would be awesome-sand, some rockwork, tons of plants.. i agree with Liz- if it were to be done right it would look amazing-but if he likes it that way-then its whatever he likes..we all have different likes and tastes when it comes to our tanks..

id ask him if he would ever sell it and downgrade to a smaller tank lol.

I think it comes down to the words you use when discribing our beloved monsters... when you start using words like ugly, mean brutes... then we have to take a stand and notice.. but yes everyone to their own opinion.. i just wanted to let you know..calling an Oscar a mean ugly brute is so off the chart.. Oscars are not aggressive fish... they are pretty much laid back lazy types...occassionally will have a tussle but those words do not in any way describe the Oscar.. Oscars do not attack your fingers...Oscars can be very timid and shy and lay in a cornor of the tank because they are stressed and scared... you do not know your monsters personality..so therefore not a good judge of character... :D
