Why is it that so many members from California still ask to have stingrays shipped to them even though they should know they are illegal?
I don't mean a newbie, I'm talking members with over 100 posts on MFK.
If they have been around this great forum long enough to make 100 posts, they surely are aware that stingrays are illegal in California....don't ya think?

Now don't be confused, this is NOT any slam on Ca members....just a simple question.

I guess...but man, what a waste of time. I honestly think the admins should keep track of these people and threaten suspension for rules violations.
Ohh they do but theres alot of members and alot of forums so they can't get to them all I suppose people either don't know there illegal or are hopeing that with all the threads out there that some one will ship them one and they would just have to hope they don't get cought

BTW I wouldn't think 100 postes is alot theres members on here that do that in a day i find that if you've got alot of posts you either have been here a while or you don't have enough tanks to take up your time i'm kinda of a combo of all of that except i don't think i could make 100 posts in a day unless i tried

Post counts really will not matter. Every one of us still learn something new everyday. Just because someone has over 100 posts and possibly even 5000 doesn't mean he is aware by now everything he needs to know in the hobby. Not many people read the local rules and regulations which is one reason and one common problem resulting in the further revision of restricted or banned fish species.

The other reason I can think of is the fact most are willing to risk at the expense of being penalized by the local authorities if caught owning an illegal fish species. This board will never condone illegal activities and the moderators are doing an excellent job to curb such illegal activities.:)

I also agree the mods/admins do a GREAT job here....I in no way meant to imply that they weren't.
It kinda gets under my skin when a member from a prohibitive state asks "if you'll ship it to Ca I'll buy her from you"....or another sent me this: "I know they are illegal, I just wanted to know if you'd sell her to me anyway?"

Those statements seem obvious that the member is aware of the legalities.
Of course the admins won't know about the potential rule violators that send these types of PM's.

If it seems the member is just unaware of the rules/laws, I let it go and just tell them the ray is illegal in Ca. I however, have no qualms about reporting a member to the admins if they still wish to blatantly break the rules/laws and insist stating they "won't say anything if you won't".

Thanks for the input everyone.

its like when they outlawed hollow point rounds to have in your posession but walk in any wal mart or wherever the sell ammo and its right there. better yet the speed limit is 55mph why put 145 mph on the speedometer?

and people will still drive 85 because they deem the risk acceptable. same thing with rays, the buyer accepts the risk.
you have to have a pretty naive view of he world you live in if this doesnt make sense. drugs are illegal too and they are bought and sold in your home town everyday

i think its prob safe to say that most members here know rays are illeagal in CA, they are just testing to see if you are okay with taking the risk as well.

ps, ignorance to the law is no excuse. no judge is going to let you offthe hook because you say that you didnt know they were illegal
