At least it's not a glass tank! I'd be scared to let anyone else transport mine!
That's why I got acrylic, haha. :) I have to move potentially 4 times in the next 5 years so I wanted something that would transport without fear of breaking every time.

I remember moving my uncles 180 gallon tank (glass). Heavy as hell. I was surprised me and him could lift it on our own.

Just a short update on this project...

The 150g will not be filled and set up until I move in April. There's a chance I won't be able to set it up at my new place either, depending on where I can find a place to live. On one hand, I'm bummed out. I'm really looking forward to finally having a monster tank. But on the other hand, if the time's not right then the tank won't be as enjoyable as I want it to be. I might have to keep it in storage at my new place, where I'll be for a year and a half. My dream tank will happen, but maybe not for a while. Renting and constantly moving is not fun.

Because of the hiatus on my 150g, I've decided to focus my attention and creative urges on an overhaul of my 40g breeder tank. :)

My midas currently lives in this tank. I don't like to think about this, but he may have to be rehomed if the large tank can't be set up for him. I hope I can keep him, but I've had to rehome many fish before, especially the last time I moved. If they go to good homes, I'm happy.

So this tank will either house the midas (if he fits-- which I doubt), or my trusty convict.

Here is the tank as it is right now:

004-1.jpg

Here's what I like about it now:
- the stand is really good quality
- the LED lights are gorgeous

Here's what I want to change:
- I want to paint the bottom and back panels with black paint. My con can't have substrate in the tank because he's handicapped so the see-through glass bottom is no good.
- I want to get a good 3d background, something with a branchy look to it.
- I'm replacing the two Penguin 350s with a canister filter. Right now my top choice is an Eheim 2217 with spraybar output.
- I want to get a canopy to match the nice cherry stand I have.

When I move in April, this tank might be the only one I can fit in my place. :( If so, I want it to be a centerpiece.

I've had to do a lot of thinking in the last few weeks, about moving, and downsizing, and that's all stressful. But then I made myself snap out of it. Worst case scenario? The 150g stays in storage until I can set it up. At least I can look foward to it, whenever it happens. I still have my 40g to toy around with.

Sorry about the halt on your project, I know how it feels to have to slam on the brakes when you're so close...whenever you do get to the 150 I will be there waiting. I can't wait to see how you rework the 40g. GL with the move(I will keep my fingers crossed for you finding a place that can accommodate your 150g.) ;)

Bummer Natalie.

If you do decide to rehome the Midas, you could get grow out a big male Sajica to keep your Convict company in the 40b

Why is your convict handicapped? Swim bladder issue?

Yeah, he has no buoyancy so he spends all his time on the bottom of the tank. He eats like a pig so I think his quality of life is still ok. We're probably going to X-ray him again soon so see if he's made any progress in repairing his swimbladder. I just don't know about him. :-\

Thanks Tomeiko. :) I'm excited about your tank build, glad to hear your husband is doing ok.

I'm sorry to hear about the moving and possible setup issue Natalie :( I know you and the rest of us were eagerly waiting for this tank to be set up. I know if I was closer I could house your midas for you until you got the tank up and running.

You never know, maybe you can set up the tank in your new place. I'll have my fingers crossed for ya.

That's a bummer about the delay. Oh well. I had a 180 gallon sit in storage for almost a year before I could set it up.I had the same issues with space. But once we moved,it was worth the wait. Good luck with everything.
