Making my 150g dream tank a reality

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd get rid of the 29 and keep the 40. Bigger is always better in my books.

Sorry about your Con Natalie, but with a "mom" like you, I say he's the luckiest convict in the world:headbang2. I can't wait to see the tank I'm so excited for you. :D

So today is the big day Natalie. I'm excited for you :).

Sounds like your convict is in the best hands possible and the 29 should be great for it unless you really want the potential to scape the tank like crazy.

Now remember to pay attention to the family to.;)

Aw thanks guys... that means a lot to hear support that I'm doing the right thing for my con. Some days I wonder how much of a life he has, but he's doing ok.

Thanks for the input. I change my mind all the time, so I'm not sure which he'll end up in. My long-term plans are that he will eventually pass away and I'll just have one tank (the 150g). So the decision between the 29g and 40g will purely depend on the convict, not on any other future ideas.

So guys... the tank is here and it looks great!!!! My parents got to town mid-afternoon and we hung out for a while then went out to dinner. Initially our thought was to wait until my brother gets into town tomorrow so he could help us get the tank inside (my mom can't really lift stuff). However, after dinner and a chat my dad said let's give it a try. He and I (with some help from mom) were able to get the wrapped tank inside. Whew... worst part over. We unwrapped it and wow... I was floored by how clean and minimalist it looked, and how large it was! We lifted it to the stand, put the canopy on, and good lord... I am in love.

Two 1.5" holes for filter intake and output (there are two of these at each end of the tank):

The lids in place (notice the feeding hole they cut on the left lid!)

I have a question... I left the protective paper on the outside of the bottom panel because I thought it'd look better under the sand than the stark white styrofoam. This won't cause any harm to the tank if I keep it on there, will it?

What do you all think??

That won't hurt anything at all and I agree about the color being better to see that white styro, I have the same on my 125g. Congrats! Those dimensions are SWEET!!!! I am super excited for you! (little jealous too lol)

That is awesome. The tank is sick looking. Cant wait for it to be filled

Thanks everyone! And Justin, it's good to know the paper won't cause any harm. It's definitely looking better than the styrofoam would have looked. :)

I still can't believe this tank is mine. It's the tank I've always wanted. I want to hug it.

The next step is drilling holes in the background, cutting it down to size, sectioning it, and silicone-ing it in place. For now, the visit with the family takes top priority. :) I will post updates as they happen!

Awesome, I just ordered some driftwood for my tank today. Where did you get that canopy from, was it purchased with the stand or separately?

cant wait to see it full

dont know the attitude of her fish, but some fish wont allow anyone else in their tank

I would not suggest another cichlid, that would probably not work. But there are plenty of other fish that they will pay no attention to. I have a midas,so I know their attitude.
