Malawi cichlids. (Load warning)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yah, there are times where I would like to work at a good fish store, but then it hits me that I don't want to make my joy into a job. I worked at a Theater now I don't like movies much or I should say I get bored way too easily... I would hate something like that to happen with fish. And I don't have the time to chat it up with fish store people anyways, though in this area the stores all seem to give you bad vibs if you are just hanging out to talk and check out the fish. Though in MN there was a great little place that I loved.

OK will update shortly. Vid is being uploaded at it will take a little while since it is longer than normal.

Otopharynx heterodon, aka royal blue hap

First off I don't think this is a very common fish yet... But if you ever see a good one pick it up. I for one have never seen a bad one but I have payed for a show one and now this one was the best Erik had for me. I do know they tend to max at about 6m/4f inches so not a large hap. But it is a beautiful hap. I didn't know about this fish until it was suggest to me and I haven't found many pictures of it. I really do wonder why it isn't as popular as it should be.
My first one was just a big bruiser never really stopping but never really interacting with anyone else. My new one, well he is smaller than everyone so he hides some, but he also has the color that you usually see one one a good 2 inches bigger then him.
I don't have much else to say besides if you are looking for a good harder to find fish this one is great. (Though again I haven't ever seen what a bad one can look like so that might be why they are less popular?)

Pictures: (Haven't taken many, but one dang good one.)

He is very very nice..and yes if i ever see one ..i would most definitly get one.

I have no idea why I havent posted yet on this. I guess I have just been amazed by the pictures. Not much to say but WOW and the best collection I have ever seen.

Yes I have both. They look very different. (IE Z-rock orange blaze blue body, this guy well you can see...)

IE I would say the question is the same as saying what is the difference between and Aulonocara, ie peacock. Or what is the difference between a Red empress and a Taiwan reef (IE both are Protomelas).

Yah, it makes breeding a pain to say the least. I know but I think with haps you can at least put some fry together since you usually can tell females apart a little more easily. (Ie fins will be red, or have some other trait, unlike peacocks where you really can't ever mix different types of fry.) I actually know a lot of people that stay away from breeding them just because of that 1 thing. (And I only mix peacocks when I have say albinos and non. It does stink.

Oh and I think I should start putting locks on the tanks just to have a deterrent :=)

could you give me a close up shot of the young female electra?
