This thread is great, ive been getting alot more into Malawi Haps and other preds of the lake, this is awesome. Thank you. I want to start a full malawi carnivor tank (not meaning all preds, but I dont want to have to deal with Mbuna bloat)

I love my electra, I think mine is female no blue, but even without it It stands out so much from the other haps... one of my best pic ups... I believe

Thats awesome that you have one.

Well just fyi the fish I have had the most trouble with bloat has been my "alpha" pred, the Aristochromis christyi. Now I think this one is a female, though it still could be a male. But why it has happened is anyones guess. I just know that I have successfully treated it 3 times for bloat. BUT when I got my UV filter I have had no problems with bloat at all. Now I don't know if the UV filter actually stops bloat but it is a good preventive for a lot of things. (And seeing as I have so much money in these tanks it makes sense to have some preventives sometimes).

And in fact I have never had any problem with bloat with the mbuna... though I never feed my malawis anything but veges brine shrimp and NLS, and I guess some flake food that they get when I want the fry to have more of a chance.

Anyways I think I will post some shots of my OB in action though they have been talked about already, but an OB general part might be good.

OH and new shipment coming in on Sat... will of course post some pictures in the show your fish thread.

So I like OB's (orange blotch), I don't care if you cry hybrid. Yes I realize over half of the OB fish out there have been breed by man (IE ob mbuna do exist in the wild, peacocks and haps don't). I don't care, I like them.

That said there are good ones and there are eh ones, and it can be hard to figure out what fish will become what.

I personally tend towards the OB fryeri. I have 2 blue strains ones and 4 traditional orange huehed ones. I like the blue ones better but the Orange ones are still quite nice. Of course my orange ones are all too young to know what they will really become but still I have included my best young one.

I also have OB peacocks, well I used to have many fry but um... yah I was learning so out of oh the 30+ I started with (tumbled and everything) I learned don't stick your smaller fry with your larger ones even if they can't fit in each others mouth... So I am down to 1 female OB peacock and 1 young one that I hope is a male, but he is too young to show any color.

Any who here are some shots of some of the fish I have, the male peacock is no longer with me so I can't get a better shot than that.

And then a vid of my newest OB, strutting his stuff. (Though I took out all the females in the tank before I added him in...)

I have never had a fish with bloat and sure hope i never do..i think a high protein diet is the cause..they need protein but not that much..cannot wait to see new fish,i am excited for you!
