Very little difference visually. All are closely related.

Chancho only come from Lago Apoyo, amarillo only from Lago Xiloa, and citrinellus (midas) come from.....well..... "Lago Everywhere Else!"

There was a nice article on cjexotics forums a while ago that had these guys side-by-side, but right now the website seems to be down. Maybe you can check back again, once it is up.

From my limited knowledge of the chanchos, their headshape is distinctly larger compared to amarillos and barred midas. I also think that amarillos have somewhat lighter complexion (i.e., more yellow in them), but that might also depend on their source as well.

This is based on my visit to Reagan's (another board member) fish room who keeps most of the fish in amphilophus family.

Always cool to see people owning Chanchos.
We need a waterchanging video! :naughty:
Not an easy thing to do with him around. He goes insane when the python goes in the water. It's kind of funny, it seems like he tries to fool you into thinking he doesn't see your hand then he shoots in and tries to get you when your not looking. Smart SOB, must say Reagan has warned me!!! I've also seen him trying to move the flower pot that the female hides in.
