There are many things that go into making a flowerhorn “high grade”. Colors, fins, pearling on the body and especially across the head, head size / shape. I remember when I was a teen and kept flowerhorns and it seemed like everyone thought the bigger the head the higher the grade. However in the current flowerhorn market it seems That has changed. A large or even proportional head with pearls that cross is a highly sought after now where freakishly large heads are not as desirable it seems. Personally what it all boils down to unless you’re just buying the fish to breed it or sell it is what you likr about the fish. 9 out of 10 flowerhorns have amazing personalities and are great wet pets though which I believe is what really gets people liking them. I can literally put my hand in this guy’s tank and he’ll brush up against it and let me put him. Your guys is nice. Nice pearling, good sized head, and some deep reds coming in on it. Keep your water clean, your temps high (84-86 works best IME), and feed it a good quality pellet accompanied by something with a good amount of astaxanthin and you’ll see him get better and better every week.
