Ok first I don't want to get flamed because I didn't think this was a male jag, but after seeing the jag that i gave my girlfriend I can see that mine is definitely male and hers is definitely a female.

He is very peaceful, at least for a jag. Out of all the fish in my 125 (oscar, sev, snook, and sal) he is the lowest on the pecking order and the 2nd biggest. He flares his gills up, and he opens his mouth, and even the smallest severum just bites his bottom lip with his little tiny mouth and the jag goes running (well swimming).

I was contemplating taking the severum that is half his size out for aggression.

He (jag) is about 6-7 inches, and I know I probably won't be able to keep him forever, but has anyone ever had a peaceful male jag like this??? I talked to my LFS and they have never seen a peaceful jag, one of the owners has one that bites his hands when he cleans his 125. Do they have teeth though? Because it seems the severum always wins the lip locks but i can see teeth on the severum, not on the jag. That would make sense if they don't have teeth why he loses all the lip locks.

The aggression hasn't been constant between the 2 though, just when I moved the oscar out of the 75 to the 125 they started all competing again, and then when I moved them all to the 125.

Jags are not very aggressive. most people i know that have them say that they are very timid and get beaten up by other cichlids. there are some that are very aggressive though. also they have teeth, you should be able to notice the teeth at 7" but they will grow bigger as the fish grows.

not very aggressive? my 7'' jag killed off everthing in my tank includind 2 jack dempsys 2 other jags a red terror and a blue gill within 1 month

mine are fine upto now, they're around 6-7" and in a 120 community with wild festae to firemouths:) iam gettin rid of one jag soon:(

Jags are more terratorial then aggressive.Give them enough space and they will cohab with tank mates.

Yes this is what it looks like, but I had no idea. I was thinking along the lines of Red Devil aggressive or maybe flowerhorn aggressive.

Really nothing like that at all.

I have had many Jags and find the males to be calm and laid back, they have there "SHOWS/DISPLAYS" but thats it.

I have only ever had 2 Jags that I would call AGRO, 1 was a 9inch female that was paired with my Xanthic, she was kept in a Rio 125 for 5years [81cmX 36cm X 50cm] so that might have played a part in it.

the other is one out of her and the Xanthic, a male now 7inches.

i seen sev's with teeth
