IME jags are more territorial than outright aggressive. Just give him his own little piece of real estate in the tank.

yup i agree with both balton and greenterra. IMe with the specie that is exactly how they are.

most if not all cichlids do ;)
[im sure there is some out there with out lol]
i id not know that, i have never seen a oscar with visable teeth, chocolate, my p bass never got visable teeth, never seen a con with teeth either, so i asumed only some cichlids grew visable teeth, but ya i have seen a sev with pretty nice set on him

my jags arent that mean. As long as everyone leaves their area that they claimed as thiers alone, then its fine, and even when other fish don't the jags do more of a prefer only puff up and display, but don't fight.

Ok here's pretty much the story with Managuense when they are young they have an attitude but when subadults they just get territorial as someone said if you give them room they are fine but yours is still a sub adult. He hasn't really figured out how strong he is or will be. Mine is just starting to creep into adulthood now at around 8" and has developed his first set of teeth just 2 weeks ago. Now mine is beligerent and very very territorial and aggressive not just to his tankmate ( 9" Crazy ass Barred Midas) but to me now too. I have noticed as well that captive bred Manny's tend to be less dominating. Not saying all are like this just it tends to lead towards it. My Midas know not to cross the territorial line in the tank or he'll get the s*** kicked out of him. Yours might change when it gets older just wait and see.

Yeah I figured it might get more aggressive when it gets fully mature, but I will keep my fingers crossed.

And overstocked, oscars don't have teeth, that is one cichlid tthat I am sure of. At least they don't have the teeth on their lips, technically they have bones inside their nmouth considered teeth, but I know what you mean, thats why they usually always lose liplocks.

yeah. im not sure what to call the internal teeth. i have a baby jag, he's a really cool,

All cichlids have teeth dude... or nearly all. (Maybe some weird tanganyika oddball or something doesnt). Oscars have "grinding plates" and teeth in their throats.

i understand that, what i am speaking of is visable teeth on the tips of there lips, im sure your right but i just have not seen that many with, maybe due to maturity or lack of proper care by people, i am just saying i rarely see teeth on cichlids, my JD has a mouth full of teeth, but i give him proper care, does that affect if there teeth are visable? i remember somone saying that there fish got sick and the teeth disapeared, interesting.....

Thats a bunch of bologna. All cichlids even tiny little Mbuna have some sort of teeth. I have seen Oscars with enormous teeth the size of a Mota's. Teeth don't fall out because the fish is sick it's because they were forced out by fighting or mouthing on things. I mean almost all even have visible teeth. Teeth will grow no matter what even if in horrible conditions unless that ofcourse if it has some jaw affecting disease or injury. Oh and JD's are very know to have larger teeth almost like a Texas's teeth.
