Without a proper, clear shot of the vent, all you're going to get from people are guesses.

Burt;)

Thank you, Burt, for the ONLY good piece of information on this thread.

So, here's the thing. You can consider this thread an experiment, if you will, to prove a point I'm getting tired of posting over and over again. YOU CAN NOT SEX A MIDAS/RD WITHOUT VENTING, OR POSTING A PICTURE OF THE VENT.

The fish in that picture is actually Draco, a definite female who layed eggs just last week actually.

This little idea came after seeing yet ANOTHER "sex my RD" thread, in which 99 percent of the replies were GUESSES as to the sex based strictly on appearance - aka, fins and nuchal hump (or lack of.) Draco has been maturing nicely as of late, and as you can see has developed actually a rather large nuchal hump, which made me decide to prove my point.

So thank you all, for proving my point for me.

KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN DISHING OUT BAD INFORMATION.

If it is "worthless" to "guess" sex on a body shot, It is "worthless" to ask......This thread is worthless. Your fish is EXEPTIONAL that is a compliment and a matter of fact. Show me that the majority of females have major humps at 5" and i will eat my words........Experiment?........:banher:

Sinister, the funny thing is when I saw this thread, and you were the author, I thought you had gone off the deep end. So I searched back and quoted one of your posts lol....

Why post a thread like this, I wasn't going to guess either cause quite simply I didn't know. But doing this and leading people on just to belittle them at the end of the thread is childish at best. If you wanted to prove your point why not post and point out the "male" features and then show she is indeed a female (a picture of eggs would be nice). Instead you decide to insult those who are only try to help. If you, or others on the internet, don't know that you shouldn't listen to 100% of what you hear and that on a forum everthing is just someone's opinion then something is wrong.

My advise to people is if you have a cichlid and are unsure of its gender assume male as males are generally more aggressive.

Thanks for the input all. Any other opinions?

What more is an opinion but a guess based upon personal experience? People post M/F threads all the time, and it isn't going to stop just because one person thinks everyones guesses are worthless. I answer these threads all the time, and my opinion is just that, an opinion. It may not be as accurate as yours, but I don't pretend that my guess is law either. (unless I know for sure.) I know from experience on this forum that your expertise is probably Rd/Midas and I for one would take your word over most, but you don't need to put everyone elses down...

I'm not trying to put everyone else down, I'm just trying to show that you can't really tell the sex of the fish by nuchal hump or finage, which is what a LOT of people base their opinions on. I know people are just trying to help when they reply to threads like this one, I just think there should be some factual basis behind the advise they're giving.

thats a male. you see that big bump on his head
