I'm not trying to put everyone else down, I'm just trying to show that you can't really tell the sex of the fish by nuchal hump or finage, which is what a LOT of people base their opinions on. I know people are just trying to help when they reply to threads like this one, I just think there should be some factual basis behind the advise they're giving.

I feel the same way...I'm on your side SK! I did the same a while back with My jag in my avatar. Needless to say 99% said male. My thread was more of a guessing thread though as I already knew the sex and wanted people to guess.

I couldn't agree more, but not everyone on this board is at the same level of experience. The vast majority of this site is probably fairly new to the hobby. And even if they aren't they still probably won't know as much as you or some others about rd/midas. All you can do is post what you feel and give your reasons why. Is it going to be redundant? Yes. Will it ever change? Probably not.

No, not everyone has the same level of experience, but they're likely here to learn things, right? So, they're learning that nuchal humps and finage on RDs and Midas are not a reliable way to sex the fish :)

Exactly why the thread proves itself. The truth is a lot of people judge on heresay and then go on repeating whatever they hear or read without ever even experiencing certain things for themselves.
She's not bashing anyone for posting their opinions. From what I can see opinions were welcomed but many of those who posted did so with such certainty it left little room for doubt. Some people posted like they were "facts" and not opinions.

I see someone who's proven to several folks that it might benefit to be a little more conservative with your "opinions". I think the same can be said for the issue of IDing hybrid vs "purebred" fish as well. Some choose to take it to the tits and that's fine.

The point is that it is a fact that you can't be 100% positive on the gender of a fish (in this case an rd/midas) based on nuchal hump or finnage. In some species it may generalize toward one or another but in over/in//tank-bred and/or hybridized fish it can often go both ways. If someone feels like an ass or feels that they've been intentionally made out to look like an ass then maybe they should rethink as to why.
It's all a learning process. We don't all start off knowing it all, we pick up a little here and a little there. Instead of being bitter over being proven wrong learn why and how to fix it or at least be a little more humble about it.
There's no use getting so worked up over something as subjective as identifying a fish (gender or otherwise) from a freakin picture over the internet. All we can do is make an educated guess.

For those of you who were doubting my honesty, Draco apparently decided to take her owner's side and lay eggs today to help prove my point ;) Pic isn't the greatest, but I came home and saw her laying, so I grabbed the camera and didn't bother cleaning the glass.
