This is very unfortunate. Does Michigan not have an upper legal limit for keeper sturgeon?

Can't keep any sturgeon over 60" or under 36" (could be 42") in Oregon/Washington....

I've seen 10 footers get banked and released.

This happened in Wisconsin not Michigan. lake winnebago is about 25 miles from Lake Michigan but it is connected.

I hate people... the guy catches and kills a 100 year old fish only to decide that he doesn't want to pay a couple bucks to have it mounted. :headshake
What was the point of killing it if he wasn't even going to mount it? :screwy: I guess he could eat it, but 100 year old dinner doesn't exactly sound appitizing. :grinno:

Wow, that is terrible. I am an avid fisherman myself... and I've released some big fish in my day. In the moment, you never want to let them go, but its just as great to seem the swim back into the depths knowing they are still out there.

That fish has been through a lot. Terrible way to go, especially to an ignorant fool who only thought as far as "Dats a HUge fish der!"..... dumb@ss

From the article

This fish therefore was legal size for all 78 spearing seasons held since 1932.

Seems a waste, cant imagine 100 year old fish would be in the tastiest things I ever ate category.:yuck:

He did it all legally and didnt break any rules. Spear fishing is sought after a lot in the WI area. The DNR in WI are also very strict on spearing this fish.
