Here's what I would like to know:

I get it, obviously if the fish you catch-like this one for example, you are gonna put to use and eat-I can understand that.

BUT

No where in the article does it go into detail about the mans intentions with the fish-we know that he doesn't want to spend the money on having it stuffed, but it doesn't say if he's gonna eat it (correct me if I'm wrong)

Here's my question to all of you hunter/spearfisherman that wanna "pat this guy on the back, buy him a beer and listen to his story"...
Do you think it is wrong of this guy-that we already know doesn't want to have it stuffed- that we later find out his intentions ARE NOT to eat it as well?

If you answer no, I think you have moral problems...and no, I'm not a "PETA" member.
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Yea an amazing creature near its end it wouldnt have lived for much longer any ways so quit . I see no problem with taking this one fish. Now if every sturgeon they were spearing was that big we would have a problem. But one monster out of all the others what a catch. I can guarenttee the man has full intension of putting the fish to good use (eating it) any angler that puts alot of time on the water wouldnt waste there time not to. But when he relized the fish was so big he thought about mounting it but when he seen the price he thought else word. Most average americans just dont have the money to blow on something like that is this economy. Why waste a whole fish and have to pay money just to look at it. I think he made the right descion not to get it mounted and to eat it. Why pay $1000s + for something you dont really need. Think money managment.

You can't compare killing whales which are far from abundant and many types in real trouble with deer hunting.

Legal hunting is actually a good thing. A percentage of the hunting fee goes to preserving wild lands which is the key .
Deer reproduce fast compared to whales and as a whole in many areas have had their only predator wiped out.
The hunter than takes the place of the predator and again with the added huge plus of hunting license revenues going to keep lands free of development.

Hunters have a vested interest in keeping wild areas . Hunting deer, etc only benefits wild life . Granted the individual animal is taken but the species thrives .
Legal hunting has been a big plus in saving animals all over the world. Whether Africa,Asia, etc where big game and exotic hunting pays farmers not to kill animals, keep land wild, etc

Whale hunting only destroys and in no way helps the whales plus its not even regulated and this is the last thing many of these close to endangered if not out right endangered whales need .

.I don't hunt deer nor whales lol but find one a plus and the other a disaster.

douche..... but this reminds me of a story of a bigger douche here in san diego. in our kelp beds here there is a fish called a black sea bass which grows to like 400 pounds or something like that. they are really peaceful fish which divers come upon from time to time. they are also a protected species which are not allowed to be fished for or killed. incidental catches must be released as well. this douche went diving one day and decided he was gonna spear it and bring it back to shore. he got caught and prosecuted, but still

I am glad to hear that he was prosecuted . Lots of illegal stuff like that happens here.

he may have done it legally and didn't break any rules....

But if you ask me. They should change the rules... :(

It's lived 100 years... seems like it's earned to live out the rest of its days living where it has for the past 100 years.
Poor thing.

Respect the animal that has outlived everyone you know.
