Man the bio-chem stars are just...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it didn't say anything about what it is.
only said what it does and a picture of a scrunchy looking thing.

and it had nothing about filstar media(you raised my hopes for nothing..)

that is an excellent sticky for media. Scrubbies are not a good choice for canisters though, better to go with ceramics rings, ehfisubstrat or matrix. Don't care much for the stars myself.

Why not a good choice??? If you add them to a tray they can't go anywhere. They are free flowing and don't put a load on your canister. I think they are fine. Yes rings are good, but if you already have the stars, why not use scrubbies?

For the space a scrubbie takes up you can get much more surface area with other media. Also the scrubbie allows for more bypass then the other media mentioned. Scrubbies are best used in a wet/dry application were they can expose lots of area to both oxegen and water.

Did you read the entire thread? That scrunchy looking thing is called SCRUBBIES. You asked what it looks like and I show you what it looked it. Filstar works just like ceramic rings and beside appearances it's minimal differences.

I fill my XP3's with crushed coral......They make great biological filters....For mechanical filtration, I use the Aqua Clear 101's...

it didn't say WHAT it was.
like if i were to ask what is a bioglass? then you could say ceramic rings.

but what is a scrubby?

A scrubbie is a made of nylon and is used for cleaning pots, pans, dishes, etc. It is low cost and has a good amount of surface area that can be used to grow beneficial bacteria on.
