Hi everyone I am having a issue with my jaguar cichlid not sure how to go about treating it. Its anus/ rectal area has something hanging out and the whole area is lumped up, swollen and its belly is sunken in. He has been eating, but not real well I assumed he was getting sick of his hikari gold etc, but I def feel like I messed up not catching this sooner. The tank is a one twenty five gallon with a fluval fx5 and 304, one hundred gallon air pump and 50% water changes twice per week. I started treating the tank with tetra parasite guard and bumped the temp to 82 but wanted to see what you guys suggest to do? pics will be attached thanks in advance everyone! oh and hes six years old btw.

Can you post your water parameters, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, Ph & hardness if available. Do not feed the fish.

Hey thanks for the replies. Would the medicine effect the resuts? anyway the parameters are as follows PH is7.6 (normally about 6.6 much lower that's why I asked) High range ph is 7.4. Ammonia is 0-ppm. no2- 0 ppm. No3 is reading 80ppm (never that high and just did a 50% water change wed). I added a Female jag about to the other side about two months ago and a Cuban cichlid about five months ago along and there is a green terror who has lived in the tank for a year. All the others are eating well and acting normal. Even the big guy still trys to attack the gf through the glass lol.

Also I have been supplementing their food with kent marine garlic extreme if that means anything. I will def cut their feedings as well.

Garlic acidifies the intestinal tract so depending on how much you've been using too much could irratate it. Generally it's good but too much isn't. Were the other fish QTed before introducing them to the tank? Have you treated for IPs previously? Stop using the garlic for for now. Do a 50% water change and treat with API general cure (metro/prazi). If you can find Kanamycin you should get some, If you do let me know.

Oh ok I will cut out the garlic from now on then. No they were not QTed (def regretting that well.) I have treated a couple times with the tetra parasite guard suspecting something was keeping his belly sunk, but as healthy as he was acting I wrote it off as him being picky with his food. I am calling around for the general cure now I found the kanamycin on fosters but I wont have that until Monday at the earliest. Will the general cure kill the camallanus??

The prazi in it wiil. It's good you got the Kanamycin. Kanamycin is very well absorbed and will work with the Metro to dliver the meds. Camallanus worms burrow into the tissue and they can be diffacult to eliminate but justas important the Kana & metro will eliminate any secondary infections caused by the infestation. So use them together. API General and Kanamycin are a good combination. Use the GC alone until the Kana arrives.
