HAHA...thats what I say too, but like me, he probably has to remove every frickin thing in the tank just to catch that one fish. It can take me up to 3 hrs just to get one fish out of the tank by the time I move the furniture to get to the tank, pull all the driftwood/plants/boulders etc.

As Im sure you know, if they can hide under it, they will :irked: so the ol "sex without venting" thread is born.

Id say male too, but Im no expert on them. Ive never had one that didnt get its *** beat by other tankmates and have to be re-homed after a short period of time.
I agree with you. I know that it would be easier to sex it by looking and not taking it out of the tank (hence the title of the thread:redface: I goofed). I never look forward to taking any fish from my tank because of the exact reasons that you mentioned. I think i'm just curious myself. There seems to be a few people that are absolutely sure they know the sex of this Jag. I would just like to know for future reference. I thought it was female but now I doubt that.

I'd say it's female due to the lighter (faded) spotting on the bottom half of the jaw and the spots on the lower half of its body are mottled. Also the end of the dorsal fin is rounded. The males I own have darker spots on their lower jaw and the spotting on the bottom half is also dark and clearly delineated.

I have a pair of jags which were hard for me to sex until they spawned, but once they did after some careful observation it was alot easier to pick out the differences.

In my experience dealing with parachromis Ive found that the males regardless of fin shape body shape trailers blablabla if the anal fin is covered in spots its a male Ive had females with the spots in other places that would make you think male along with a thinner body type but the females that Ive had in the past and currently have do not have spots in the anal fin so I say male and yes he is a bit chunky but like homie said dudes samoan give him a break chunky jags need love too:grinno:

on second thought I just looked at the pics again I didnt see any spots by the anal fin DOH! so female

Check the last pic. Spotting under the vertical bars as well as on the face plus the pectoral fins and also head shape say male to me. Why do you guys think female? Not as many spots?
I agree with Kevin, though I'm not 100%. Managuense at this size can be hard to sex, but it looks like a stressed male (black finage). Post some pics in a month maybe then it will be easier to tell.

New pics look female, lol.
