oddly enough striped fish seem to have some kind of advantange to being kept with stomatopods (of which check out stomatopods.com) 3/4 stripe damsels, clownfish, even the lined wrasses, whatever you choose i wouldn't get anything more than a few bucks, just in case, also more open water fish like chromids.

personally i like the viridis, but the peacock is by far the most colorful and ususally the most outgoing. they need a 20L minimum, but the viridus can bne kept in a 10 or a 5 even.

the speares are more fun to watch eat, but the smashers can sometimes be kept with fish. and you can hear them crack into a snail.

any way i would really check out that website, i'm in the forum and there's some good infor in there.

I actually have a clown and a 6 line wrasse in the tank now but I was planning on removing them...are you saying they might be ok? Even with a spearer? I would think not but I guess anythings possible

BTW I now own a Zebra Mantis! :headbang2...But I cant pick it up for another two weeks.

its under 3 inch so it will work just fine for now. I have a 30 bowfront for it later and I can always go bigger as needed. This is not my first pet ha ha

Thank you tho for the concern...some people need it

are there any tricks to keeping them out in the open as much as possible?

matbe puting in a smaller crab for it to eat.

these things are no joke. last year i was in key west , and there was one of these guys in a hole in the sand, 2-3 feet of water right on a swimming beach no structure for 100 ft. i kept dumping sand on him he just kept pushing it out. i wonder how long it took till someone stepped on him? really cool invert. best of luck.

Yea I read a newspaper article online somewhere talking about a man who tried to grab one and was cut on his thumb clear to the bone!

oh yeah. he also had most of his body out of the hole. i guess waiting for food. you could see him from pretty far away.

Yea im hoping mine will keep visible most of the time...I have 24lbs of live rock in there though so if he wants to hide he he sure can. I might take some out but I hate the idea of killing the live rock that I paid so much $$$ for!

i thought he said it was a club type.
sorry just now realized i was in the wrong thread.
