Marble motoro's.Interesting observation don't you think?

I have a female pup from Richard who is about 2 and half years old. She has the finger marks described by Richard and is around 14" and currently pregnant. The male was a wild caught ray I got just over 2 and half years ago who was around 10" and fully mature. Having had these two rays together it is interesting to compare as the female was about 6-7" when I got her so she has doubled in size the male however is currently no more than 11" so has probably not grown much in that time. He has the perimeter spots and I also noticed he has a more prominent point at the front of his disc almost nose like and are longer from the eyes to the front of the disc. Not sure if any of the other MMMs have this or not? The female is due to give birth around the begining of September so it will be interesting to see the pups (I think there may only be one as she is not that big and it is her first litter). Here are some pics.

This is the pair together when I first got the female.

Here are the two of them in June 2010:

On the photo above you can see the fingers on the female and the 'nose' (sorry don't know the proper name for it) on the male.

Here is a picture of them taken today just to show the size difference (sorry not the best photo):-

This one just shows he can do a great womble impression ha ha but it does show the longer more pointed front to the male:-

This is an interesting read and it will be good to monitor these rays long term.

hi nikki . the pattern on the female seems to have faded where the male seems to have kept his . i wonder if its growth or gender related

whats your water change schedule and what you been feeding

great news that the female is knocked up though have you seen movment yet ?

Thanks I am seeing lots of movement but only on one side hence why I think there is only one pup. The pattern did fade on the female but since she has become pregnant she is showing slightly more marbling but this is not shown in the photo. Richard and I are still hopeful she will reach her full potential as the marbling is there just not as bold as all of Richard's other pups. The rays are fed mainly massivore and cichlid gold with treats of prawn, worms and mussels. The water changes are about 40% every week.

Has any one else with the MMM's noticed these traits ?

I've noticed differences in eyes but never payed attention to disc points..... Will have to look tonight, but I believe I have a few with this point....
