No, that's incorrect. They are all female. No males exist in this species, but they are clearly genders.

My marbles had babies, i have about 90 of them, lol.

So if I put 1 of these things in a 20gal feeding 2 senegal bichirs, 2 pictus cats, 1 abk, 1 jack dempsey, 3-4 convicts & 8 tiger barbs...would I end up over-run with crays or would it be a good & healthy food source for my fish (as a supplement to their pellets)?

I tried convict breeding and after one spawn I decided to nix that...they don't seem to be getting eaten fast enough and I don't really have proper accommodations to handle all the fry. Basically wondering if I'd end up with the same problem, or if I'd just have a pretty sweet cray tank that doubles as a great free food source....

what was hard about the convict? Wait a couple of weeks and then dump them in your tanks? no need to accommodate the fry if you just wanted them eaten anyways

lol, i don't think you'd be overrun but their growth rates aren't the fastest. if you can be more patient then you were with the convict tank, you can handle it though

I think they're awesome. I have a 55 gal with them. They have LOTS of babies at once. Best food source for my puffers in my opinion. They get to eating size in a few months.

Once the fry started to get to 1/2" or so the tank started to go downhill. The male adult ended up with a pretty huge gash in his side after thanksgiving vacation & it was just starting to get over crowded. I removed all the fry and put them in my 55 & 65 (mostly 55). I just feel like thats loading the tanks with too many feeders at one time, one of my poly's is already showing a golf-ball gut, its ridiculous. And judging by the rate the fry are getting eaten in those tanks, I don't want the convicts to spawn again in another week or so and then have overlapping batches of fry etc etc etc.

Maybe once my sen's are bigger and a load of 1/2" feeders doesn't seem like copious amounts of overkill I'll try again. Right now it just produces too much for me to have a responsible use for.

So basically, I'm hoping the crays are a little slower at it &/or have smaller spawns.

Cool...I'll have to start researching them & see if this'll be my next project. Right now my 20gal is just the male convict but I'll probably start thinking about moving him out or rehoming once he heals up.

...back on track with the topic now, sorry :p :nilly:
