Marbled Motoro Color

I'm gonna have to be the one member to disagree w/ the substrate view on coloration. My reason is due to my MM's. They have been in bare bottom tanks since they were pups and the bottom of the tanks have all been painted black. In my experience they coloration is due to the individual ray because the coloration on my male is much darker and they have been together the whole time eating the same food and they came from the same batch.......

I'll post pics of the male when I take em. Also, the parents coloration were nothing like this.

Nice rays. I pretty much just did a science project on this thread so to speak yet some seem to not believe or agree with what I saw and am posting with proof in picture form.... soooo looks like this will only go downhill from here so I'm going to let it be. Unstoppable and I have sisters from the same parents and his had a darker tone from the start and now she also is more marbled than mine.

My point is that I'm sure pups even tho from the same parents can vary some both in pattern and coloration. To clarify any confusion I've been reffering to the base color not the spot colors. And looking at your pictures your rays have dark bottom of tank and a dark base... I'm just sayin....Either way nice rays man.

This is a dark base color?

Nope not at all... something about that second pic looks unnatural especially in comparison to your first picture...
All I know is what's happening in my tank.... I can't disbelieve what I'm seeing with my own eyes.
In the end I have achieved what I wanted to achieve to I guess we can just close this thread. Don't feel like debating... my marbled got dirt brown top and bottom on dark sand, others agree its the sand some will disagree... worked for me.
Sweet rays man but the black didn't work out for me.

I have said it before and will say it again, I also would not rule out substrate color. This one was originally on a dark substrate.

There is 3 8' florescent lights in my garage and all where on to take that picture. Normally my tank is lit with a single bulb 48" light.

I'm not saying substrate has nothing to do w/ coloration but I am saying is not the main or only determining factor and I am also not fishing for a debate. Substrate and tank color has proven coloration enhancement in fish but there are many other factors that also affect it. IMO and experience, it is genetics and the individual fish that is main determining factor in coloration and overall quality. This is why breeders match high quality fish to try and breed out the less desired traits.
