marineland filters SUCK

sry to hear that. impellers are the only problems I've ever had w/ any of my Penguins or Emperors. In fact, I have one right now that makes quite a bit of noise, but I've never gotten around to fixing it. I've had the same Emperor 400 for like 5 years w/o a problem, though. I have 5 Penguin 350's right now.

Penguin filters by Marineland suck, all the other filters would be my favorites. I love the emperor 400 and the magnum 350 pro is amazing. The C series is their first real line of canisters and, though I have never used one, have heard they are da ****.

Don't know about the penguin 350, but their magnum 350 is tough as hell. I've been running mine for about 4 years now. It's as good as the day I bought it. Don't know what the deal is maybe you just bought a bad one it happens.

Hopefully you can return it w/ no problem. I think you should give them another shot though try the magnums. Pretty good filter line for the $.

Thats the key yours is 4 yrs old. The newer models are not as well made as older models. I just bought an Emperor 280 and 400 for 2 tanks .
They are not as well made as my 5 yr old Emperor 400 .

This is new Emperor 280 and compared to my older one this is a cheap toy .They went from IMO the best to a filter that is a fraction of what it was 2 years ago.

The Emperor 400 IMO WAS amazing but not the newer models.
