I have my doubts that they are marmorata if no other reason, marmorata are relatively rare and specimens that small are almost unheard of. If I had to guess a species right now I'd go with Cr. sp. "Venezuela". Did the seller give you any sort of collection information? Were there any other pikes in the tank with them? What did you pay for them?

Marms start to change at about the 8" mark but a lot depends on diet, water chemistry, decor, tankmates etc. Some may start to change as small as 6" while I've seen some that at 12" still exhibit juvenile coloration.

Regarding them coexisting and this meaning they are male/female, don't place much on this. Most all of the lugubris group pikes are actually schooling fish until they start to mature. It is not at all unusual to find a large pair of breeding pikes still tending a group of juveniles that have already reached the 6"-7" range. The fact that both of your fish are still sporting their juvenile coloration means that they will likely continue to coexist until one of them starts to mature. Looking at them you have at least another couple of inches to go before their personalities begin to change.

Time will tell what you have. Hang onto them and hope for the best!

on the internet both types look the same its so hard to tell,he got them special order world of water hes also got 1 in adult colours there now i paid £15 each for these.i was after a cobra pike but he come back with these in the lugubricus type.

Definitely not marmorata. They`re Venny`s.

I'd be careful here. Small vennies look almost identical to small marmorata. And while I thnk that they are likely vennies I am at least willing to entertain the notion that they may indeed be marms. As mentioned, time will tell and since he already has the fish he may as well hang on to them and see what he has.

Most small Lugubris types look similar up to a point. If someone is going to claim that they are Marms to sell them, I would assume that there is a pretty good chance that they are. . . The value of a Marm is way different than a Ven. A vendor could get themselves in a lot of hot water making these types of claims.
