Wondering is masonry sand is safe for an aquarium, it would be used for african cichlids, so they would be digging a lot in it. Unsure if it's safe, or if it's too course, etc etc.

I know quik-crete is safe. Thats play sand, not masonary sand. But i think it shouldnt be a problems as long as you wash the sand very very very very good befor putting it in the tank or you will be cloudy for a couple months.

Just buy some Pool Filter Sand. No need to ask questions. It'll work.

It'll also cost more than I want to spend.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've used play sand and all that before.. But I like the look of this masonry sand, so I just want to hear about people's experience with masonry sand.

Costs less than 10 bucks for a 50 lb. bag.

hrm, I guess I'll have to call up a pool supply store and see what their prices are. Last time I saw some was at Home Depot and It wasn't near that cheap.

Well, the pool filter sand I could find wasn't to my liking color wise, I just went with play sand. For anyone interested... I tried the "pillow case" method, it didn't work well for me at all. The best way I've done it is small amounts (3-5lbs max) in small containers(while sitting.. it takes awhile).

Nothing wrong with that. I can only find one color too which makes sense why would you need different colors for Pool Filter Sand.
