Don't get discuraged. There is no reason to get out of the hobby. We all make mistakes, we've all had things go wrong we didn't understand it's all part of the learning curve. When I see a 15 year old excited about this hobby I think it's great and shows me the next generation is comming up to our place. Don't even think about leaving the hobby over this. These are unfortunatly not the last fish that will die on your watch but there are also many successes ahead of you. MFK is here to help you now and learn from you in the future.

+1000 very well put sometimes thing's go wrong and I would not suggest you quit over this. Keep your chin up when you look back one day this will seem like a small blip.

Yea my sig is 3 years old...i liked the OG members that were here a couple years ago....now all of them are out of the hobby...no wonder i never post anymore

It doesn't matter who tested the water since there's no such thing as ----> 0 ammonia in a tank that's been sitting full of dead fish. You're using a chemical that's causing the false reading, figure out what it is.

You just told us that "ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 20-40" yet in your first post you said "ammonia 0 nitrites .25 nitrates 20". Assuming that was the before and after tests, those numbers confirm everything I said.

Im not saying your wrong...im just stating the facts....im not using any chemicals like amquel or prime....i use RO water...the ammonia 0 nitrites 0 and nitrates 20-40 were my readings from before...im not saying two different readings from one test...

So your saying that your other results of "ammonia 0 nitrites .25 nitrates 20" came after the die off? Again, I really don't see how that's possible, and if these were your results after the die off, you need to figure out why you are/were getting false 'zero' readings.

Chemicals like Prime will, as far as i know, give you a false positive. What you're looking for is why you got a false 'zero'. I actually have no idea what chemical, or anything else, that would give a false 'zero' reading, other than maybe a defective test kit, which you've already said isn't the case.

I do hope you figure it out, and don't just "chalk it up to a loss". Some problems can't be figured out, those problems are rare. Most problems we do figure out with some effort, so we don't make the same mistake twice. That information goes into places like MFK so that others may never make that mistake at all. and that is what makes knowledgeable (responsible) fishkeepers.
