Massive African Tank Species Choices?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say go with the emperors or another thing that would be awesome is to do the riverine/madagascar tank =) you could put some nice mosnters in your tank with those guys!! There so many and they all looks pretty cool!! Another thing is maybe try a tang tank or victoria tank - research the fish and add what gets along. Xenotilapias are always cool =)

If you want to add large, mainly vegetarian Africans look into the Characin family, Genus Distichodes. Some of the tilapia like the red bellied, or the blue, or redbreast might work for you as well. One other Fish you may wish to consider, though not completely vegetarian it is not aggressive and impressive in it's own right, is the African Arowana (Hererotis niloticus), it eats phytoplankton, brine shrimp, tiny fish, and flake/small floating pellet foods. here is a pic
I can understand the multiple places you have posted this question, stocking a tank like that represents a considerable investment.
Please though, post some pics of the tank and filter set up for us to drool over.

I would go with a huge colony of Zaire Frontosa, a few different types of Comps, and of course some Jumbo Cyprochromis...of course you would need to start out with the Cyps and get them producing lots of fry, because the Fronts would be feeding on the Cyps. This would be a really great tank imo.

Africas in that tank would look absolutely amazing and with that much space you could have sooooo many. Cant wait to see pics of it filled. All the colors and action, wow. Some peacocks, labs, zebras. gosh the possibilities are endless.

:headbang2
yes mbuna tank!!!:nilly:  :nilly:

the possibilities are enless with that much room
I would put 3-4males 10-12 females of each type
stick to the larger species like elongatus/trewavase/zebras
tons of texas holey rock
a few groups of synodontis catfish too

a huge colony of blue fronts like moba or kapampa with electric yellow labs for contrast sounds awesome too:popcorn:

If you want large fish, you got frontosa, calvus and Benthochromis tricoti. I agree that a mbuna tank with many smaller fish would look good. But if it were my tank, i'd go with fronts
