In your opinions what tank size could you get away with if you had the following fish? This is for each fish not all in one tank. 1 per tank but take into mind most will have a few tank mates.

JD
GT
Severum
Convict pair
Oscar
Jag
Parrot
Midas

240g thats a lot of big territorial fish.

thats if your lucky.

my opinion on minimum foot prints for the cichlids, that i know most about:

Convict pair - 24'' X 12''

JD - 36'' X 18''

GT - 36'' X 18''

Oscar - 48'' X 18''

Jag - 60'' X 24''

Instead of asking about what tank size for each species, why not go by average max size? For example, a 12" cichlid generally needs about 48"x18" an 8-10" cichlid needs about 48"x12", etc. It's easier than going through your ever-changing list of fish you want to keep. Or better yet, decide what size tank they will end up in, and then decide what species you want based on what will fit.

ive kept all these fish but tank size to me varies according to ppl. Ive had jd's and jags in a 55 and their fine. Most fis dont reach what ppl say online. ive also seen full oscars in 55s all their life. This isnt about what i wanna keep i just thought i would post something to see opinions. Im not setting up a tank for about a month or so. I know what i can keep and what im able to maintain in any tank size regarless of what ppl say cuz everyone has their own experiences with fish.

i agree, thats why i put my opinion of the minimum foot print for each.

If you ask me i would say this.

convict pair-40 gallon breeder for life
jags- can be kept in a 50 gallon due to dimensions if alone but are able to stay in a 55 for a few years if a female. Males i think grow at a more rapid rate
JD'S and GT'S- can stay in a 50 gallon for life if alone or with 1 or 2 smaller fish.
Severums- are hard to predict size i had one that stopped at 8 inches and i had one hit 12 inches and both were same sex and in the same tank.
Oscars- need atleast a 75 cuz a 55 is pushing it as far as turning for such round fish.
midas cichlid-75 atleast but a 55 is ok for a year or 2.
Parrot-u could keep 3 in a 55 cuz they grow so slow i had one for 3 years and he's not full grown yet but very healthy and in my soon to be parents in laws 50 gallon.

Opinions vary

jags grow bigger then Oscars, so why would it be more appropriate for the jag to be in a 50 and for the O to be in 75?

like u said opinions vary, but i can still ask why u have that opinion?
