Some of these claims are getting ridiculous. :D

Lets get some pics to back up these statements.

I agree, I really don't buy that there is a 22" oscar.

You never know. People catch fish and occasionally get something that is way beyond the norm for a species. I think that in any sort of non-mammal that environment plays a huge role in growth. Since most pet Oscars are in <500 gallon aquariums, and this is where 99% our collective experience come from, how do we know that there aren't some real monsters in the wild and that such a thing might be more likely in a huge commercial aquarium? I'll believe it when I see it but with any sort of fish I'd never say, "no way." I believe this is true of size and life expectancy. A goldfish can live 60 years. Anyone here done it?

I had a pair consisting of an albino red, and a red. They were very lovely pair, exact opposites. But the male was about 14" and well over 2" thick, I never got a measurement on thickness. The female was about 13" and thicker than the male. They were massive fish for sure. I have a shoal of wild caught Os right now, the 3 of them range from 9-10". Ive had them for less than year, and when I got them they were about 1/2-3/4" long. I noticed them the other day and the largest one is getting some real mass, Id say hes around 2" wide atleast.

Ive noticed a real diffrence since I switched their staple from Tetra Cichlid Sticks to HBH Oscar Show pellets...Oscars are always ready to eat. But these things are nearly breaking the glass canopies when this **** gets thrown in the water :)

I have had mine get to about 12". Anything bigger than that is an exceptional speciman with good genes.

If you continually breed larger ones and possibly line breed you could get Oscars that produce many monsters. There will still be normal 12" specimens in the same clutch probably even some runts that will not make it past 10" even with perfect water, diet, and environment.

I don't believe there is a 22" O out there. 14" or larger requires proof.

It's hard to believe but you never know. What if an Oscar developed a gland problem and became super big? Then it wouldn't be normal though so shouldn't be included in this thread. It's hard to belive there's an 8' tall Chinese woman but there is.

Still, I'd have to see a 22" Oscar or even 18" to believe it.

The guy just happened to get the one with the gland problem? Possible, but highly unlikely. I want to see pictures of any Oscars over 14" with a point of reference. Its not that I don't believe they could exceed 14" its just that for some reason tons of people have them but I cannot turn up any pictures of anything over 13".

This is what I expect as the usuall response to seeing a picture with reference. I didn't have my camera, and the battery is dead, plus the card is full, but I also don't know how to post pictures, so you just have to take my word on it.
