I just found this site and I see there is a bit of a difference in tank size for a mated pair of jd's compared to the cichlid forum. I went by their guidelines and picked up a 55g last week to house my first pair but here the consensus seems to be that a 55 is too small.

Just looking for everybody's opinions here and if you think it's too small what could I comfortably house for life in my 55?

i think you could pull it off a pair of cons or salvanis would be better but you never know

I think it will be just fine. I would say that a 55 is the bare minimum for a pair of JDs.
Otherwise, you could go with severums, salvinis, cons, firemouths, africans, etc. Basically anything that maxes out at less than 12 inches.

8-9" absolute maximum for a pair of fish in a 55gal in my opinion, presuming its a 12" wide tank. 6-7" would be more appropriate.

R FRY BABIES FOR SHORT OR WAT?

Regardless of your pointless hijack, yes fry are baby fish. Just like a baby Cow is called a Calf, and a baby Sheep is called a Lamb.

Mate, honestly, Do you have to use the grammar of a six year old?
Also Japes already answered your question.
A FRY IS A BABY FISH.
can you see it now that it is in caps lock?

a fry can mean a group or a single baby fish. try not to write in caps as it comes across as shouting and try not to hijack threads.

I maybe overly conseravtive, but agree with Japes ... I wouldn't push anything over a 6" fish in a 12" width.
