i think you'll be fine with a mated pair of JD's in a 55. But nothing else

This hobby is too addictive, I'm actually glad these guys need a bigger home. It gives me a reason to buy an even bigger tank and hey since the 55 will be empty I might as well get more fish.

Thanks for the opinions and insights all.

or you could do that.

looks like someone caught MTS

u can do a pair of jd's in a 55g its been done loadsa times before. aslong as you keep up with the maintenance and keep their water clea you should have no problems.

I like the 75, not to expensive and you get 18 inches of width instead of 12 or w/e the 55 is. Then again I would rather have a 500,000 gallon tank and never have to worry about the stock.

I had my adult breeding pair in a 36" long 40 gallon, so a 55 is just fine.

...no

People keep Oscars in 30 gallons and they survive, therefore I can too, right?

A 12 inch fish shouldn't be in a 12 inch wide tank. Get salvini or cubans or something smaller, or a larger tank. (salvini are way cooler anyway :))

Use your best judgment.

I have a breeding pair of JD's in a 55. They are in there with 2 bristlenosed plecos, 2 pictus cats, 4 giant danios, and a gaint algae eater that my gf dropped in.

They are fine. However, I do not see this being fine for life, unless I get rid of everything but the JD's when they get bigger. As of right now however, everyone is happy and healthy.
