I've had a thread keeping tabs on a little project i've been working on... introducing a female mayan cichlid to my male mayan currently in a 120 gallon tank that is primarily african cichlids. All I have to say is....... IT WORKED! http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?460168-My-Mayan(s)

This thread is for any recommendations you guys may have and to keep track of progress. Today I noticed that their breeding tubes had extended, and after all the digging they've been doing, it could only mean their planning on breeding! So here are the pictures, all comments are welcome!

1st: the male
2nd: the female
3rd: the pair
4th: the female's tube

Nice mayans. I love the close up on the male. How have they been w/ the Africans?

the male has been in the tank for several years now and has only eaten one fish... an annoying yellow lab that wouldn't stop pestering him! he's now about 9" but I haven't measured him in a while so that's just an estimate. i'll check later today when i get home! so far the pair is doing great, no eggs yet, so i'm going to do a water change as soon as i get the chance... i've been watching them very closely and its really interesting watching how they interact with each other and the other fish in the tank. I did have to remove one demasoni that kept hiding in the floating plants... the female would see his tail or one of his black/blue bars and think it was food and bite him, lol. he's doing fine in a breeder box until his fins heal, then i'm releasing him again.

thanks for the positive feedback! i'll try to get some good pictures, but my male HATES the camera. flares up, changes color, and charges, while she watches, lol
