mbu puffer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If its a puffer who is bitey there isn't anything that will stop that behavior, it's just how they are.

Honestly, that tank sounds really crowded to me, and as mentioned just the MBU alone needs a bigger tank, so my guess is hes nippy coz he just doesnt have enough space to call his own...

Do you have any plans for a larger tank? If not, maybe its time to thin out the stock list...

Either way, if i were to take a guess at what was causing the problem, i would still say it was too many tank mates in too small a tank... since the other tankmates are probably picking on / invading your MBU's space, making your puffer quite possibly give out warning bites...

Why beat around the bush lets cut to the chase why you have nipped fins!!! Here is the answer to your question.

Your definitely overcrowded and that's why you are having problems...Indo pacific tarpon aren't even suited for a home aquarium let alone a 220 gallon, they grow up to 5 feet long. You have 3 peacock bass that will grow over 20" each a fire eel that can get up to 4 feet in time, armatus that will grow fast and well over 24"+ easy in an aquarium. Your red tail barracuda will probably get to about 12" and the FEI Feng to 18". If your arowana is a silver when it hits 2 feet it will be outgrown your tank what about the other foot or more it has left to grow? You have a gar that will get 3 feet and the odoe maybe 12" after a long time but not that long.

You have an Mbu that will grow to 20"+ easy as I used to own one and you have it crammed into this small tank and you wonder why he is nipping and fighting for space.

None of these fish are good together and the only ones that won't outgrow your tank is the Fei feng, odoes, fire eel, catfish and barracuda the rest don't belong in a 220 gallon tank. If you wait long enough most of your fish will turn on each other and you will probably be left with one big armatus, 3 big peacock bass or one giant arowana! The rest will all be eaten.

So you need to go back to the drawing board and do some actual research on the potential sizes and suitability of your tank mates before you purchase something then you will have success.
