Mealworms of for rays?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One tip Aquaman gave me was to only feed the worms (long term) as a treat and make sure they always get pellets first - not the other way around, this way you know they have eaten the pellets....no pellets....no worms. (simple training really)

chop up some worms and soak a few hikari sinking carnivore in the worm blood over night

But i dont want to starve her yet,id sooner get her settled in and feeding well and then do it and richard did say they were eating worms and bloodworms,id starve the male as hes quite a lot chunkier but thinner and dont want her to die as im starving her too early, were going to try and soak some other food in with the worms and feed that first with the forceps as she reacts very well to food in the forceps but then doesnt eat it,if you know what i mean.

Just be careful not to stress her too much, as long as she is getting some food I am sure she will increase her appetite.

My little motoro does not consume anywhere near the food my big pearl eats but he is very active and she is not, plus she is just small so does not need as much foo but she eats and has a nice round bump so I do not worry.

Can you post a pic of how skinny she is?

What do people think on here about live shrimps I have heard many stay away as the rays get hooked? It may be worth it to get her eating of you are worried.

Weve just fed her some worms and she got a nice big fat ass so i know shes eating its just trying to get her to eat something else,il try the soak method when we can find some more worms, maybe try some bloodworm in a bit before bed.

the problem you have Steve is you have started off with one of the hardest rays to get feeding right

retics are one of the main reasons most people think ray keeping is hard as they buy a cheaper ray to see how hard it is to keep rays before spending more on other rays

this is one of the main reasons most people say to start off with motoro they do get big but they are very easy to look after compared to retics

motoros boost you confidence with keeping rays and retics give your confidence a big kick in the teeth for new ray keepers

dont let this put you off keeping rays its easy and just retics that are hard

Ok richard thanks for the info and advice,we will keep trying.

Steve

that said my 1st ever rays were retics and they were before the internet and i was lucky if i done water changes in the 2 years i had them and they done great

they were all males and most of the problems i hear with retics are with females

I had a female retic that ate within 30 mins in the new tank. Then after 2 days ate carnivore then massivore. But, it does seem ESP on this forum, that retics are harder to raise than motoro
Maybe I just got lucky. The motoro I had at the same time died after disc curling. Lucky the shop gave me another one.
