Mega clear vinyl prototype tank build (concept building)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As a carpenter, I'd suggest far more reinforcement of the corners, or welded metal bands formed around the top and bottom. That will be an awful lot of pressure on two deck screws and a 2x4
Yeah, I just did the math--132 lb on each screw on the floor joists. I was being lazy. I'll have to put joist hangers on there. On the top rail I ran the screws through oak dowels at the grain end attachment points. There won't be a lot of pulling force on there so I think we'll be safe with that. If not, we'll find out tomorrow :)

That is a really big tank it looks like it might be over 400 or might even be 600 gallons
700 gallons

Thanks for the link BlindSight. There is some valuable r&d stuff on there.

I really doubt the liner will fail due to puncture. I suspect it will fail either at the point of attachment at the top of the liner or at the vertical support loops (which I will take a picture of tomorrow instead of try to explain it). The material is very strong.

We didn't fill today. Stupid me had the plywood, for the floor, cut to the wrong length so I need to fix that. The vinyl is really strong, like, unbelievably strong. Makes it very difficult to work with though. Getting it in the frame is not going to be fun.

I took some pictures.

This is the frame mostly finished. The black pipe is going to go through loops welded into the vinyl to try to keep the material from bulging out too much.

This is a picture of the vinyl laid out on the table. It seems to have a slight tint to it. I'm getting with the supplier to see if we can do anything about it. Pardon the picture quality, it's hard to take a picture with these shaky hands.

...oh, and the white stuff at the top of the frame is the track that is going to hold the liner in place.
