Megaflow 4 Wet/Dry Filter - It is enought ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK, I changed 1/2 water. I add Prime x 2 (Removes Chlorine, Chloramine, Ammonia; Detoxifies Nitrite and Nitrate) and some bacteria. And I add Black Water.

Tomorrow I check water.

Thank you !

Hi,

I check my water parametrs after yesterday water changed and Ammonia (0.25 ppm) and Nitrate (0-3.0 ppm), but Nitrite is still not perfect - 0.50 ppm. But check fhoto I'm not sure.

What should I do now ? Wait cople days ? Changing water every day 20% or not ?

Mike

For the good of your aro you need to be doing enough daily water changes to keep ammonia and nitrite levels under .25ppm.

Tank has been setup 2 months ago, but with Arowana 3 weeks. I'm sure that when I check water one month ago everything was perfect !

Thanks

What do you mean everything was perfect? How exactly did you cycle your tank?

Keep up with the water changes, you're doing the right thing..
Watch out for ammonia spike.

OK, I will check water twice a day...

Thanks

OK, I understand :)

I mean: I had before, before Arowana arrived:

Ammonia - 0 ppm (mg/L)
Nitrite - 0 ppm (mg/L)
Nitrate - 0 pom (mg/L)
PH - 6.6
Temp - 81F

My cycle : I try to explain using pictures :)

1. My tank
2. How cycle works (should works)
3. Left output
4. Overflow inside
5. Right output
6. Overflow outside
7. Filter
8. New micro pad and little carbon inside
9. Filter left side

Thank you for help !

When we say "Cycled" it is regarding establishing the Nitrogen Cycle within your aquarium. Your tank was not cycled when you added your fish. So now you are cycling your tank with a very fragile and expensive fish.

Here is some info regarding the subject http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

Keep doing the W/Cs in order to save your arowana.

Thanks, It helps to understand how it works. I know before, but in my book is: "A nitrate level of 40 ppm (mg/L) or LESS is recommended for freshwater aquariums." That why if I sow "0" I thought that is perfect.

To have a perfect water I should have:

Ammonia - 0 ppm (mg/L)
Nitrite - 0 ppm (mg/L)
Nitrate - 5.0 - 20 ppm (mg/L)

Am I right ?

Hi,

I'm changing water everyday - 20% / 30%. I added Nutrafin Cycle - bacteria; 1st day - 450ml, 2nd day - 180ml, 3rd day - 180ml (instruction on the bottle).

My tests are:

Ammonia - 0 ppm (mg/L)
Nitrite - 1.0 ppm (mg/L) when I changed water I get 0.5
Nitrate - 5 ppm (mg/L) or sometimes 10.
PH - 6.8
Temp - 82F

Can I do anything else ? Try another/diferent tests ? How long it can take ?

Thank you for your help :)

You getting there, you have bacteria consuming ammonia and producing nitrites. You also have bacteria that is consuming nitrites and producing nitrates, this colony just needs to grow stronger.

I would keep up with the daily W/Cs maybe increase volume as to lower the nitrite level to .25ppm where it is safe for your aro. Keep dosing with prime for the entire volume of the tank also to help detoxify the nitrites. You should be looking good in a week. Keep us informed if any other problems arise.
