It's ignorance like this that irks me. It's called being politically correct, and people who do have disabilities are actually pretty sensitive to this issue... I know because my brother has Autism. Why do you think people scold kids who call someone "retarded"? It's just like calling someone "g@y" because you want to insult them, it's immature and ignorant. So yes. There is a difference between "mentally retarded" and "mentally disabled", and there are laws that say so.

The gene pool is just going bad. It's just like in dogs, for example a German Shepherd has hip problems from the constant breeding. It happens in nature they do have problems. Just like humans when certain genes are paired from mother & father **** get messed up.

okay you took this as me calling my fish mentally retarded and taking it as im saying it against people? did I know I didnt... I could of put the title as are my fish retarded? but no I had the decensy to say mentally retarded which is more than normally used and is the political way to say it, or mentally challenged americans... either way you say it means the same thing. I was just wondering if they were slow or if something wasnt working. Im sorry about your brother but you dont have to go flamming somebody because of me callen my fish mental.

Do you even know the definition of retarded? retarded - developing slow or behind others. That right there proves Mentally Disabled and Mentally Retarded are pretty much the same? Prove me wrong?
 
It may be a law but some laws are very pointless. I am 15 years old and can see that American laws are making this country into pussies. If you are older than me, grow up.

Lol exactly my point... although I think he is kind of lazy I mean he eats one piece of something and just floats till he swallows it and then kind of coasts over to get another piece, where as my other cichlids and barbs in my 55g are like lightning eating.
 
I don't want this to turn into a closed thread but "Mentally Disabled" encompasses a wide range of disabilities which can include learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, etc. "Mentally retarded", short for "mental retardation", is a specific disorder all to itself. Part of my college degree is in special education. I'm not flaming (one m), I'm just trying to help you understand that there is a difference, and that the "more correct" of the two should be used, because you never know who will read it.

Edit (to ryan): It's ignorant people like you who don't care about others' needs and their rights that make us as a country look as uneducated as you are.
