He basically said getting one Rope FIsh wont work, it will become stressed out as well, seeing as it is a schooling fish. you need at least 3 or 4 (imo). I want some too, but am holding off untill i have both the room and time dedicated to them.
BTW, how did the bala jump out? did you leave the lid open, or are there a lot of open gaps? If there are, fix them, then think about Rope Fish. They are jumpers, and will sim into the filter intake if given the chance, and will jump out if given the chance.

don't get a rope, when your oscar gets big enough he'll gobble it down, they're just too slim to keep with them
no the only gap is around where the filters are, and he made it out the front some how I have no idea how lol. its wierd that he was even still there considering that I have 3 dogs and 4 cats and somehow he didnt get ate when he was out all that time.
Just remember that if you do get rope fish (more than 1, 4-5 would be ideal) that you make any gaps you have as closed off as you can get them, make sure that there is a filter guard on the intake, they like to swim up there, and keep a close eye on your oscar when it gets larger/full grown, cause he will attempt to eat the ropes...
lol okay. Im just thinking about another fish I could possibly get and I really liked those but I dont have a enough room for that many. and I thought theyd be okay by themselves or with another one because Ive seen people only have 1 and they seemed perfectly fine etc. but ok
You could try, but once again, it may put the rope in stress.. At my LFS they have around 10 ropes in a 200g, every time i go there theyre all tangled together, like someone braided them. Def a school fish, like to be together, you may be able to get 3 and be fine, but not too sure...
