Looking to see if my metynnis fasciatus will ever be able to go with my stingrays. Since there is variable max size on the internet I would like to know what size your fasciatus are and what size tank they are in as potential size can be hindered by the size of their tank. Mine are currently in a 230 gallon and they are various sizes with 5" being the biggest so far. SO......How long have you had your metynnis fasciatus, what is their size and what size is the tank?

Never mind I have given up on them being big enough and I am not running a tank for just fasciatus so I am trading them this weekend for some bigger fish to go with the rays.

That is probably the best thing to do. They are medium sized SDs. Average 6"-7" (including tail). Not particularly fast growers after the 5" mark. If you want big SD's, get wide bars, Mylesinus paucisquamatus (dolphin pacu), or some already large red hooks. And a 230 tank is large enough to meet their full potential as long as water params & varied diet are in check.

Rapps has some instock right now that are a good ray size already at 9-10" U believe.

I am trading for some big wide bars. I will wait on the micans price to come down and just like the fasciatus the price will come down eventually. No way would I pay anything like $425 for a silver dollar type species. Not much difference between micans and red hooks except micans get bigger and have a wider anal fin,red tail and a dolphin pacu like profile but in the end too similar to justify the cost difference. I bought 8 big red hooks for $137.00 I wasn't too impressed once I seen some more pics of the micans so the red hooks will fill the mid water swimming space for now. I am not even sure if micans play nice or school so I will wait until the rich folk buy a group and see how they do together. If they play like my wide bars I won't be buying them as my wide bars fight all the time and that's enough hassle for me.

Most red/blue hooks will get too big for your tank... blue hooks can reach 16+ inches and need deeper tanks to school in.

My 450 gallon and 520 gallon are too small? My 230 was just a growout for the fasciatus and since they will be not big enough I traded for blue hooks. It was all for nothing as I need to sell them too as my 18" armatus took an eye out already so they need to go now. I am really getting tired of finding tank mates for the fish I want to keep.

I based my post on the information you had provided in this post. Sry if that offended you. All I was doing was merely trying to give advice.
