Mexican Black King in shed...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've never read that its harmful to them in any way.

Can any of the more experienced herpers chime in on that? Is it bad to handle snakes when they are in shed?

I doubt it...besides the fact that it may stress the snake out or increase the chance of being bitten. But if its used to being handled anyways...

She is super mellow, and has taken very well to being handled.

When I take her out of her viv she's very calm, and has never struck at me.

Usually when snakes are in shed they're somewhat irritable because they can't see. But it's nice to know your snake isn't biting you.

What a stunning snake!
Always wanted a Mexican Black King Snake. They seem few and far between here in the UK though. Shame :(
On the topic of handling when in slough, no, I personally don't think it harms a calm animal. My royal python Kurt is very defensive when he is in the blue, so I don't handle him so as not to stress him. But a calm animal used to being handles is fine :)
